Concept

This poster translates Hector Acuna’s MFA exhibition Super Duper into graphic form. Rather than illustrating the work, I treated the poster as a material extension of the installation itself.

I pulled visual fragments directly from Hector’s practice: the boot, turf surface, everyday objects, printed ephemera. These became cultural artifacts within the composition, carrying the same hybridity and displacement present in his sculptural work. The typography layers and offsets deliberately, echoing the provisional quality of the installation. Type becomes physical presence rather than neutral information carrier, interacting with image through scale shifts and cut-out gestures.

The composition centers a single striking image, allowing negative space to frame the subject while informational fragments embed themselves at the edges. This invites viewers through curiosity first, details second, mirroring the experience of moving through the exhibition space.

The poster operates as both announcement and conceptual translation. It asks: how does an artist’s spatial logic become typographic logic? How do materials carry meaning across mediums?

This reflects my broader approach to design as interpretive practice: extracting an artist’s underlying visual language and reassembling it into a system that communicates atmosphere, not just content.
